Susan is a member of the MIXDesign think tank and design consultancy,  through which she collaborated closely with architect Joel Sanders on the Stalled! gender-neutral public toilet project.

Susan also serves on the Scholars Advisory Committee of the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum.

Other consultant work includes:

​– Institutional Planner and Lead Content Strategist with Amy Kaufman Cultural Planners, on the feasibility study for The American LGBTQ+ Museum.

​– Public history and architectural preservation projects such as the Marsha P. Johnson State Park, the Lyon-Martin House, and the LGBTQ Historic Sites Survey of San Francisco.

– Historical consulting, script consulting, and project development consulting on a range of scripted and documentary media projects.

​

– Higher Education meeting facilitation and program development in trans studies, for clients including Vassar College, Wellesley College, Mills College, and California Institute for Integral Studies.
